The team of the ENS of Lyon is qualified for the final of the IPT!

After one year of experiments and a French pre-selection tournament, the M1 physics students, accompanied by Nicolas Plihon, Nicolas Taberlet, and Hugo Roussille, are participating to the IPT - the International Physicist Tournament. The tournament opposes 18 teams around a list of 17 exciting problems, which confront their results and their interpretations during "Physics Fights". It's taking place at Ecole Polytechnique near Paris this week, and the ENS Lyon team has brilliantly reached the final by finishing first after the qualifications!

Classement IPT

The final takes place on Friday morning, and it will be broadcasted at the ENS foyer. It is an opportunity to listen to and discuss problems such as: What structures can be built with Pringles? How far can you blow out a candle? How to make plasma with a pencil lead and a microwave? The complete list is here: https://iptnet.info/problems/   

The final will be broadcast live, and will run from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm:

  • The "Captain fight", which mixes practical tests and order of magnitude calculations in a limited time, will take place from 8:30 to 9:00 am.
  • The 3 subject presentations, followed by debates with the opposition teams, will be spread out every hour: 9:00-10:00 am; 10:00-11:00 am; 11:00 am-12:00 pm

The results will be announced between 2:00 and 3:30 pm during the closing ceremony. If you wish to follow the final, there will be a live broadcast on YouTube.
