How did you choose your programme in Physics ?

I began by binge-watching every possible course I could fit into my schedule. After two years at this pace and a wealth of information that allowed me to better understand the world, I realized that this personal pleasure did not correspond to my professional aspirations. So I joined the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées with the help of my scientific background and the methodology I learned during my studies. This double degree allowed me to get back in touch with the concrete which I missed during the research at the ENS. Moreover, it allowed me to open myself to other stimulating environments and to follow a new wave of knowledge, in a more restricted and applied field.

Message and advice to the current and forthcoming students

The ENS has allowed me to learn and develop scientifically. It is an immense chance to be able to evolve in this framework. On the other hand, it is easy, like me, to get lost in your discipline. Don't hesitate to learn less about what you want to learn in order to be able to follow other transversal disciplines. For example, I regret very much not having taken the epistemology and economics courses at the ENS.

Even if fundamental research is not your goal, the contributions of thorough scientific training and methodology will allow you to differentiate yourself in the company. Don't forget that your intellectual honesty and the scientific values you have acquired are transdisciplinary.

Finally, the last regret is that being inward looking creates a gap with reality. No, the final objective is not a grade, but to build yourself as a researcher, a teacher, and, above all, a human being. The academic side, supported by the preparation of the agrégation, must be put aside to remember what brings us together: the love of knowledge, the need to understand the world, and the desire to share this knowledge.
